taken and dumped out the window in a cloud of smoke

Our English language means nothing these days.
Fad words like SWEET! and AWESOME! and COOL! have become the grand extent of the average persons vocabulary.

I'd say that is pretty sad. But what can we do about it? Try and use other words? I can't find any!!

That's how awful it is...when we want to try and give our language it's meaning again and stop going with what the fad is, we can't because we've forgotten all the other beautiful words that we could use.

They've been dumped out the window
and forgotten in a cloud of smoke...
...in the dust of fad words.

I was thinking about what you said to me the other day.
And, I've been trying to find some words.
This is what I have come up with, but I don't know if it's what you're looking for:
marvellous
wonderful
fantastic
excellent
fine
exquisite
superb
magnificent.

Again, I don't know if this will help. Or, you could just use a thesaurus. They work better/faster than I do... :]

See you!

yes, that's what I'm getting at. Why don't we use words like that anymore? The only words we know these days is cool and sweet.

haha...Amy was just saying the other day that we should read a thesaurus:)
"excellent" idea!

In my writer's craft class today, we wrote down adjectives that were "good" or "bad" on yellow pieces of paper, and separated them in piles. Then my teacher read them out loud and boldly denounced the word "nice."
It was wonderful.
Also, I'm not going to lie, I have read a thesaurus just for the sake of reading it, it makes for brilliant reading!

Agreed! I thoroughly enjoy thesauruses...thesauri?
I think my next gift to myself is going to be a beautiful thesaurus. yay!

Aren't words lovely?

Thesauruses/thesauri are most handy...especially when writing essays. Whenever I repeat a word too often I right click and press synonyms and there is a plethora of words at my fingertips. it could be cheating/unoriginal but its pretty much my favorite part about writing essays.
Ps. I really enjoy the word plethora too.

oh man, kira, plethora is SUCH an awesome word!

what does that word mean? I'm too lazy to look it up just now.

Brittni: yeah, the word "nice" is pretty lame. It's the only one that comes to mind whenever I try not to say cool or sweet...and it's REALLY annoying!

it means a large amount....wide variety or somethign like that.
i dont feel liek looking it up either but thats the gist (jist?) of it

The cure for not knowing enough words is to read a hard book with the book in one hand and a dictionary in the other. seriously, for English homework it rocks. Words can make or break what you are trying to express. Words are important, if they are linked with a meaning, a small meaning (like how soporific means "makes you sleepy")or a larger meaning of words and phrases all joined up together. Hooray english!

i shall try that.......one day..in the future....ish.
